New Admittee Credits
Within 12 months of admission to the ISB, Idaho Bar Commission Rule (IBCR) 402(f) requires each member to complete at least 10 New Admittee Credit-Approved (NAC-Approved) continuing legal education (CLE) credits. NAC-Approved CLE Credits address Idaho practice, procedure and/or ethics. Of these 10 NAC-Approved CLE credits, attorneys shall complete courses specifically addressing Idaho substantive law on ethics, civil and criminal procedure, and community property. The NAC-Approved CLE credits completed by an attorney in his or her first year of admission to the ISB will be counted towards satisfying the 30 CLE credit hour requirement in Idaho Bar Commission Rule 402(a)(1).
A new member who has actively practiced law for less than 3 years in any jurisdiction prior to admission to the ISB must also complete the New Attorney Program within the first year of admission to the ISB. The New Attorney Program consists of an introduction to practice, procedure and ethics. The New Attorney Program is held twice a year in Boise in the spring and the fall on the morning of each Admission Ceremony. It is not available online or as a recorded program.
Requirements
- Complete at least ten New Admittee Credit-Approved (NAC-Approved) Credits within one year following admission.
- Complete the four Idaho Substantive Law Courses on ethics, civil and criminal procedure, and community property.
- If the attorney has not practiced law for at least three years prior to admission, complete the New Attorney Program within one year following admission.
New Admittee Credit-Approved (NAC-Approved) Courses
New Admittee Credit-Approved (NAC-Approved) credits can only be earned through courses on Idaho practice, procedure and ethics that have been approved by the Idaho State Bar. Approved courses are identified by the "NAC" (New Admittee Credit) or "NAC-Approved" designation. The Standards for New Admittee Credit Approval contain the criteria for NAC approval. If you are interested in attending a course on Idaho practice, procedure or ethics, but it is not NAC-Approved, contact the MCLE Department at (208) 334-4500 to discuss the possibility of NAC approval.
Credits from the four required Idaho Substantive Law Courses and, if required, the New Attorney Program are included in the ten (10) credit NAC requirement.

Idaho Substantive Law Courses
The four required Idaho Substantive Law Courses on ethics, civil and criminal procedure, and community property are available as online-on demand courses. All new active and house counsel members must complete these four courses as part of their ten New Admittee Credit-Approved (NAC-Approved) requirement.
New Attorney Program
All new active and house counsel members who have not practiced law for at least three years prior to admission, must complete the New Attorney Program (NAP) within one year following admission. Credits from the New Attorney Program can be applied to the ten Admittee Credit-Approved (NAC-Approved) requirement.
The New Attorney Program is only held in Boise in the spring and fall in the morning of the day of the admission ceremony for the bar examination applicants. It is not available as a rental program or online. Please check the ILF/ISB Courses page or contact the Legal Education Department for specific dates.
Deadlines
New members must meet the requirements of IBCR 402(f) within one year following admission to the Idaho State Bar. The one year will begin the day the attorney is admitted to the Idaho State Bar. Attorneys can request a hardship extension to complete the requirements under IBCR 402(f)(4). Failure to meet the requirements by the deadline can result in cancelation of the attorney's license to practice law in Idaho.
Certification of Compliance
Following admission to the Idaho State Bar, new members will receive a letter from the Licensing Department and a certificate of compliance with IBCR 402(f). This certificate showing the new admittee credits earned must be submitted to the Licensing Department by the end of the attorney’s one year deadline.
