Membership Status Definitions

Active: A member of the Bar who is licensed to practice law in Idaho, who is in compliance with the Active licensing requirements under IBCR 302 and whose right to practice law is not currently limited under IBCR Section V by order of the Supreme Court.
Canceled: Status of an attorney whose license has been canceled by the Supreme Court based on noncompliance with licensing requirements.
Emeritus: A member of the Bar who has been granted a limited license to practice law in Idaho under IBCR 228.
House Counsel: A member of the Bar who has been granted a limited license to practice law in Idaho under IBCR 225.
Inactive: A member of the Bar who is not licensed to practice law in Idaho and has met the Inactive licensing requirements under IBCR 302.
Judicial: All magistrates, district court judges and appellate court judges of the State of Idaho and all judges of the U.S. District Court of Idaho.
Military Spouse Provisional License: A member of the Bar who has been granted a limited license to practice law in Idaho under IBCR 229.
Resigned: Status of an attorney who voluntarily resigns his or her license or whose license is deemed resigned under Rule 305.
Senior: A member of the Bar aged sixty-five (65) years or older who is not licensed to practice law in Idaho and has been granted Senior status under Rule 302(d).
Other Statuses
Questions concerning the following statuses or an attorney's disciplinary records should be directed to Bar Counsel's Office at (208) 334-4500.
Disability Inactive: a person who has been placed on inactive status due to incompetency or disability.
Disbarred: a person whose membership in the Idaho State Bar has been revoked.
Disqualified: a person who has been disqualified from the practice of law in Idaho.
Interim Suspension: a person whose license to practice law in Idaho has been denied pending the outcome of disciplinary charges.
Resigned in Lieu of Discipline: a person who has resigned his or her membership in the Idaho State Bar rather than face disciplinary charges.
Suspended: a person whose license to practice law in Idaho has been denied for a specified period of time.
